Enterprise Profile

Talaroo Hot Springs

Talaroo Hot Springs is a cultural and eco tourism business offering guided tours, a caravan park with powered and unpowered sites and a café. We are committed to the tourism industry, community and the environment and sharing the Ewamian culture and look forward to building our profile and reputation within the industry to achieve our ultimate goal and strategic vision for our Community in becoming fully self sustainable business.

Talaroo’s mounded travertine terraces and hot springs are unique to Australia.  A photographer’s paradise and fascinating fuel to any budding geologist, their connection to Ewamian Traditional Owners go back millennia and they have provided a lifeline throughout human and evolutionary history.

Talaroo is one of only two mound springs in Australia and the only one not fed by the Great Artesian Basin, but from water seeping from kilometres underground heated by hot granite rocks.  At Talaroo, this water takes an incredible 20,000 years from falling as rain in the nearby Newcastle ranges to discharging from the Springs.

In the cooler pools and outflow streams, the waters have long been prized as healing waters for body and soul, and no visit to Talaroo is complete without a relaxing dip in the purpose-built geothermal soaking pool (included in the guided tour only) or booking one of our private soaking pools.

Talaroo Hot Springs is located in the Gulf Savannah of North Queensland on the Savannah Way, approximately 5 hours drive from Cairns.e

"This brand new tourist site is wonderful. The campgrounds are well designed, the camp kitchen fitted with everything a camper or caravaner needs plus a spotlessly clean toilet block with plenty of hot water. The guided tour of the hot springs was informative and the swim at the end of the tour in the large pool was great. The river is also a lovely spot for walking plus swimming and lulling in the river. Kids are well catered for with games equipment spread around the park. Special mention to all the staff, great to see First Nation women staffing and managing this impressive enterprise."
