Red Dirt Tours

Red Dirt Tours is a locally owned and operated small business specialising in the natural and historical environments in and around Winton.

There are so many things to see in Winton and around the region – Dinosaurs, Waltzing Matilda, grazing, spectacular scenery – each with its own unique characteristics. So we offer a range of tours, and multi tour savers, to show you our part of Queensland’s backyard. Dinosaurs feature heavily around Winton but if you’re not into that, just remember, there’s a lot more to see than dinosaurs.

Winton is on the western side of Queensland so by the time you get here, you and/or your partner will be ready for a break from driving for a day or two. You can fly in, or catch the Spirit of the Outback in, and we’ll do the rest. However you get to Winton, we’ve got you covered. Just sit back, relax and let us do the driving for you!

Red Dirt Tours is owned and operated by Vicki Jones I love nothing more than to show you around our backyard, to get out into nature and to let you know about things you see and the people and processes that made it happen. I hope to see you soon!”
Vicki.

Experiences

Dinosaur Stampede 4/3 Day Tour

Journey through Winton’s mesa country to see a snapshot of an ancient environment and dinosaur footprints from 95 million years ago. Along the way we will go off the beaten track to enjoy some of the magnificent country this region has to offer – we drive onto a working cattle station to see Merton Gorge and Lookouts. At the Dinosaur Stampede we enjoy the guided tour of the footprints and have time to enjoy a stroll around the spinifex walking track. There’s so much more than just dinosaurs!

Carisbrooke Station and Dinosaur Stampede

Visit Carisbrooke Station and the Dinosaur Stampede. The Dinosaur Stampede at Lark Quarry Conservation Park preserves 3300 dinosaur footprints that were made 95 million years ago. We will be enthralled by the tour at this site. Then we travel to Carisbrooke Station to marvel at the natural wonders and history of this spectacular location. See the Three Sisters, Meteor Lookout, fossick for opal and just sit back and enjoy the open expanse of the landscape.

Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum Half Day Tour

Visit the Australian Age of Dinosaurs with the largest collection of Australian dinosaur bones in the world. Hear how the bones are surfacing and are dug up right here in the Winton region and remain in the area to be prepared and added to an amazingly progressive dinosaur museum. You will see real bones and professional animation to recreate the dinosaurs before your eyes.

Bladensburg National Park 1/2 Day Tour

One of the original homesteads in the Winton region, Bladensburg National Park is steeped in history but also has the rugged beauty of rock formations as well as diverse ecosystems for the region. We visit the old homestead and shearing shed, Scrammy Gorge and Lookout and the permanent water hole of Bough Shed.

Rangeland Rifts & Sunset Tour

Visit the jump-up (mesa) region of Rangelands Station where erosion has created narrow channels (rifts) through the rock. We explore these rift formations before enjoying the spectacular views from the sunset lookout.
BYO drinks, we supply the nibbles!

Charters and Group Tours

We offer a number of options for groups and charters. If you prefer travelling on your own or just with your friends, we can arrange a private tour for you – we’ll customise an itinerary to suit your needs. If you are flying in just for a day or two, we can arrange airport transfers and private touring if you wish. If you have a large group coming in, we can arrange tours at times that suit you. Or if you want a little bit of expert local knowledge, we can hop on your coach.
