Australia’s Accessible Outback
Undara Experience delivers the essence of the Australian outback. From the natural landscape of rolling savannah plains and ancient lava tubes formed 190,000 years ago, to the warmth and hospitality of your hosts. This is a place where you can explore natural geological wonders, enjoy the comforts of a unique outback attraction, and where local wildlife is abundant.
Guests can choose from a range of accommodation options, catering to every budget and lifestyle from powered camping sites to the unique award-winning railway carriages, Pioneer Huts and Homestead Cabins.
At Undara, the day begins with bird song and ends with a golden sunset. In between, there’s a wealth of things for you to see and do including three tours on the park, all hosted by trained Savannah Guides. Each tour has been designed to provide the very best experience for guests of all ages and abilities. At Undara Experience, we take tour guiding very seriously and understand that a good guide is essential to creating your once in a lifetime travel experience.
Nestled in the Savannah Woodland, yet close to Undara Central, is our premium Pioneer Huts accommodation embracing modern-day initiatives to ensure they perfectly suit the Undara brand. The Pioneer Huts are fully air-conditioned with bathrooms and a private veranda. They are perfect for relaxing or wildlife spotting, allowing you to immerse yourself in this Outback landscape in complete comfort.
Beautifully restored, turn of the century, railway carriages are our multi-award winning and most unique signature style of accommodation. The carriages are set along an original teamsters coach road, under the shade of tall trees surrounded by Australian Native wildlife. Our railway carriages were fully refurbished recently and have won both Australian and Queensland Tourism Awards for Unique Accommodation.
The Homesteads are our latest addition to the Undara Experience accommodation, and one we are really proud of. They are called the Homesteads because they are dedicated to six of the original pioneering homesteads in this region. It’s just another little piece in the puzzle that makes up the Undara Experience.
We can’t wait for you to come and enjoy the Undara Experience with us.

Bram Collins, Senior Savannah Guide
“Undara is one of the most special places in the world made even more special because of our deep family connection dating back six generations. We have been custodians of the oldest lava tube system on Earth for over 120 years and I share my family’s passion ensuring this incredible place is protected for future generations to enjoy
Establishing a connection with people and watching the experience come to life for them is one of favourite experiences as a Savannah Guide. It is rewarding to see people’s opinions change and their thinking transform based on the experience we offer.
The moment I love most about being a guide at Undara, is when visitors see the Archway for the first time – it is a truly memorable. I also love being able to tailor a story to suit the visitor and watching the effect that has on them is great.
I truly believe a Savannah Guide guides from their heart not from their head. Being a guide is a wonderful occupation but being a Savannah Guides is all that and more. You’re part of something bigger, more wide reaching.
Savannah Guides are bringing people together and empowering economic development through tourism to ensure communities become all they can be for the families who choose to live there. It’s so much more than just being a tour guide.”
