Being a Tour Guide

Tour Guiding will show you a new world of fun activities and introduce you to interesting people from around the world.

What will you do?

As a Tour Guide you will be an Ambassador, the authentic person to share knowledge and represent this Country and its people. That is an important responsibility as you might be the only local person guests talk to. You can be very proud of that.

You will also be a Leader, taking control of the group and keeping them safe and happy. The organisation of the tour, its timing and success are up to you. This can give you a great sense of achievement and confidence.

Importantly, you are an Interpreter, a Storyteller explaining important messages to your guests. Your Cultural knowledge and tools to explain Country will continue to grow.

All of these roles bring powerful professional and personal development, making you stronger and opening up more opportunities in life. At the centre of this are your People Skills – your ability to communicate with different types of people, understand them and know how to give them a great experience. This is a conscious effort, every tour, and you will feel yourself growing with every step.

Building Your Opportunities

You might start by sharing the Tour Guide role, backing up the main guide and gradually taking on more of the commentary and responsibilities. Before long you will be able to run the whole tour.

Being a Tour Guide will offer different daily duties to your Ranger role, giving you variety in your work. Perhaps there are different stories you can bring to the tour, or extra tours you can run or develop. Some Tour Guides move into operational roles around tour equipment, others develop social media marketing skills that become another part of their job. Many find that their growing communication skills open new opportunities. The more skills and knowledge you develop, the more choices you will have.
