Discovery Parks – Mount Surprise (formerly Bedrock Village Caravan Park and Tours) is located in the historic township of Mt. Surprise, 320 km southwest of Cairns on the Savannah Way.

Discovery Parks – Mount Surprise offers spacious, shady, drive through powered sites. Each site has native tree screening on either side to encompass a quiet and private bay. The lawned camping area, set among the trees, is equipped with its own camp kitchen which includes a toaster, kettle, and fridge and hot and cold water sink.
There are 34 cabins at Discovery Parks – Mount Surprise all of which are air conditioned, ensuited, have television and linen is supplied. 30 of these cabins have full cooking facilities and one is suited to disabled patrons.
The 11 metre salt water pool, 9 hole mini golf course and television room, ensure that the younger visitors to Discovery Parks – Mount Surprise have plenty to keep them occupied.
Free gas BBQs and 2 camp kitchens are offered for self-catering. Clothes lines and laundry facilities are available in the recreation area.
Pet minding is available for those wishing to join a tour; the fee is a donation to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Most evenings from Easter until the end of September, there are free camp-fire activities and inexpensive home cooked evening meals are served.
Discovery Parks – Mount Surprise hosts this comprehensive tour to the world renowned Undara Lava Tubes three days a week from Easter to 30 September. Begin with a walk around Kalkani Crater where you see amazing views of the lava tube line. As the day progresses, visit larger and more spectacular tubes. The tour includes morning and afternoon tea, scrumptious lunch, all transfers and National Park fees.
A moderate fitness level is required due to walking, standing, gradients and uneven surfaces. Tours depart 8:00am Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
Step onto the Tour Bus outside your door! On the 45 minute drive to Undara National Park, your guide will point out the town’s history, the railway and a brief on the landscape. Your first stop will be at Kalkani Crater. Here, you’ll walk around the crater rim and learn about the flora and fauna of the McBride province and its volcanic history. After morning tea, the tour takes you to three sections of the Undara Lava Tubes. The tour includes morning tea, transfers and National Park fees.

Board the Savannahlander in Mount Surprise, then sit back and relax for your two-hour rail journey, winding your way through the heart of cattle country to the quaint outback town of Einasleigh. Your guide will meet you there and take you to the charismatic outback hotel for a refreshment stop before visiting the fascinating Copperfield Gorge. Here you’ll learn about the history and geology of the region. On your return bus journey, we’ll stop among riverbank trees and boil the billy for afternoon tea.
